Our Planet…Our Future

In order to address the challenges created by climate change, rapid urban development and dwindling resources, we must embrace the principles of sustainability. One of the greatest impacts on sustainability comes from waste management.

Inadequate waste management leads to widespread pollution that can contaminate the air we breathe, the water we drink and the places we all call home. It tarnishes our living conditions and health on many levels. Despite all we know today, a staggering amount of waste never reaches recycling, recovery or controlled disposal facilities, but are instead sent to uncontrolled dumpsites.

Rethinking Waste

To change this, we must rethink how waste is viewed. Instead of seeing waste as a problem, it can actually be a sustainable solution. Co-processing waste in cement kilns is an environmentally friendly way to dispose of discarded materials. The high-operating temperatures required to power cement kilns destroy harmful substances that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Additionally, waste used to power the kiln means less fossil fuel (e.g. coal) is required. This lowers CO2 emissions produced and ensures non-recyclable materials, such as plastic scraps,  do not enter the environment.

Commitment to Oceans

These plastics are the primary contributor to the world’s ocean pollution problem which is threatening fisheries, aquaculture, recreational activities and global well-being. One common myth about ocean plastic is that it’s there because of direct contact. The reality is most plastic in the ocean comes from landfills due to illegal dumping or improper disposal methods.

As we all look for ways to embrace sustainability and offset climate change, responsible waste management is one of the more important actions we take. It can mean cleaner oceans, improved air quality and a better overall living conditions for the years, decades and centuries to come.

A sustainable solution

Waste production is an inevitable byproduct of business. But that doesn’t mean it needs to be thought of as a negative. Through responsible waste management, the waste generated by business can actually help be a part of solving the problem through techniques such as co-processing.

Protecting our planet and building a clean future requires waste management solutions that help close the loop of the circular economy. At the end of the day, we hope this helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, preserves energy and resource consumption, secures valuable resources for future generation and fosters a healthy environment.
